Awake Now
Evy Langdon, 9
"This poem is open to any interpretation. I was inspired by some previous poems I had written while traveling with friends. I use different perspectives to show the transition between my characters' dreams, memories, and reality as she slowly wakes up. Personally, I see it as a dreamer's future gone wrong."
If Only You Knew
Makailynn Garcia, 9
"Based on my mental health and what I hear other people talk about."
Burning Out
Salma Mohammed, 12
"I wrote this poem when I was feeling tired and burnt out especially with all the events going on in the world with the pandemic, political tension, and challenging school work. I wanted to capture how I felt because I was feeling so overwhelmed, and it resulted in a poem."
Are You Real?
Matthew Kim, 12
"I was inspired to write this poem after my grandpa fainted while gardening a couple years ago."
Siren's Song
Carly Silverstein, 11
"In the Introduction to Creative Writing class at St. Stephen's, we were encouraged to pick one poem out of the many we had written that year to edit and finalize. I enjoyed writing about this myth because I wrote from a perspective that isn't often heard, and I found the fantasy genre to be liberating. I'm really proud of the work I put into this poem because it was difficult to find the right words for each rhyme scheme and wordplay."
Mother's Day
Henri Bariselle, 11
"This poem was dedicated for my mother, she is the nicest, most helpful, encouraging, person I ever met and since I could not thank her enough, I made her a poem.  ."
digging for gold on a tuesday evening
Jack Gormin, 10
"I wrote this piece for my writing class."
Slant-Eyed
Natalie Kim, 11
"This is a collection of 3 poems inspired by my own personal experiences and growth, written in December 2020."
